Hope Restored
56-year-old José Antonio came into the church by himself, rolling his wheelchair by hand. I immediately felt a strong connection to him as I noticed the hopelessness in his eyes. Talking to him, I learned that he lived alone with no family, and I could easily see that he was trapped under a spirit of depression.
Addiction and diabetes had stolen the best years of his life, and his job as a truck driver was taken away when he had to have one of his legs amputated. With no way to support himself, he came into our clinic in broken desperation seeking glasses for his deteriorating vision.
After providing for his physical needs, I sensed that his spiritual needs were not yet satisfied. While his sight was now clear, he remained spiritually blind. Seeing his brokenness and hurting, I began to tell him that although he feels alone, he is not. God cares for him and desires to be his best friend. At these words, this seemingly friendless man began to tear up.
I asked José the simple question we ask everyone who comes through our outreaches, “Have you ever invited Jesus into your heart?” José responded, “No.” Right there he surrendered his life and heart to Jesus. His soul, spirit, and hope renewed, José repented of his past and prayed with our team. Dedicating himself to Christ, he was then introduced to the pastor and has since been welcomed into the church. Transformed in Christ, José’s life is a testimony to God’s character—He is our relentless pursuer and merciful father, restoring all who come to Him.
