The Most Valuable Thing
When we are in Mexico serving, there are times that we know the sacrifice we have made to be there, but we don't always see the sacrifice of the workers that we come alongside to work at the church. We would like to share the testimony of Abdiel, a brother from our church who reminded us where true wealth is found.
At the end of the first day of the medical mission, Abdiel returned home with a heavy heart. He had hoped that more people would come to receive care, and when that didn't happen, he felt discouraged. On top of that, he had taken two unpaid days off from work so he could serve, which meant less income to provide for his family.
That evening, he gathered his family to pray. During their time together, one of his daughters said:
"Dad, you have taught us that the most valuable thing in life is to serve God, even if it means that one day we might go without food."
Those words deeply touched Abdiel's heart. In that moment, he realized that although he had made a financial sacrifice, he was incredibly rich. Rich because God had blessed him with a family that loves the Lord and understands that serving Him is worth more than any earthly treasure.
That day, Abdiel realized that his greatest legacy is not what he earns but the love for God and His work that he has planted in the hearts of his family.
His testimony reminds us that serving God is never in vain. Sometimes the results are not what we expect, but God is always at work—shaping our character and leaving an eternal legacy in our families. True wealth is not measured by what we possess but by a heart that is willing to serve the Lord.
